Bullets Into the Wall

At the same moment Alec Guinness and William Holden see one another, both shout incredulously, "You!!" In the next, Holden is shot down.

"Oh my God", says Col. Nicholson, "What have I done?"

Where in the drama is the left today? When will they say, "My God, what have we done?"

The uncirculated resolve and tendered clarity struck from clouds of ash and plummeting bodies is made counterfeit by denial. Denial is a powerful force. Unconscious. Obdurate.

Deadly.

The Ceausescu's were supposedly crying out in denial as the firing squad's bullets struck them down.

Where is the left in the drama? In the riverbed? Against the walls?
